Day 536 - The most wonderful time of the year

It's an exciting time of the year at the Pruitt household.  As anyone with children knows the kids are very excited for a trip from Santa in a few weeks.  In addition to that, there have been a number of functions and events we've had a chance to participate in.  Before we get to that, let me recap Evan's recent medical appointments.

This shirt used to fit like a night gown

Last Tuesday Evan went to the clinic for his monthly check-up and IV based infusion of Pentamidine and IVIG.  His counts looked good with the exception of a slightly elevated ANC.  The Nurse Practitioner stated the medical team wanted to give his increased dosages at least another month before making any changes to the plan.  This NP was with us on Day 1 when Evan was originally diagnosed and was critical to his improvements last year.  She commented to Cristy how good Evan looked and she couldn't believe how well he was walking.

Solid counts, but higher than desired ANC

Just another day at the hospital

Over the last couple weeks the family has had the chance to attend a Kennesaw Christmas Parade, a Hayes Holiday breakfast, the Lights of Life 5K at Life University and a CURE Christmas party.  We are so fortunate to be able to expose the kids to so many activities.  We have many more coming up, and there are also some life lessons I'm hoping to impart on the kids over the next month.  I'd rather not elaborate beyond that, but the kids continue to amaze me every day and I hope they're able to grow from the various experiences presented to them.

Next weekend Evan has been invited to visit the North Pole through Aflac and Delta.  We're supposed to meet at Hartsfield at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and from there we'll go through TSA security and board a plane.  He's reached the age where he's not too sure about Santa, so Cristy and I have asked him to keep his skeptical comments to himself so as not to ruin the experience for others.  He's become suspicious of the legitimacy of our elf on the shelf too.

The boys helped Cristy and me with Christmas decorations last week.  It's great seeing all the lights and decorations, and nothing beats a well adorned Christmas tree.  I've told both of them they could ask Santa for one gift.  For anyone considering gifts for the kids, I would ask that in lieu of gifts you consider donating to some very worthwhile charities out there.  Make-A-Wish, CURE and Camp Sunshine have and continue to enrich our lives through support and fellowship.  In addition to that they help countless other families navigate the difficult circumstances they may face.
